Activities

Most of the time you'll be playing with the children or helping with their homework, but it can be helpful to have a few ideas up your sleeve for how to mix things up and expand their skills.

Art and Crafts

Creating art and crafts is a great way for children to learn and its something you can get involved in too. There are lots of great ideas on the internet for things you can often theme it on a popular holiday e.g Mother's Day, Valentine's Day or a religious holiday. Just be sure that any surfaces you're using are well protected, the children are wearing clothes they can get mucky and run your idea by the parents first.

Baking and cooking

A lot of children like to get involved with baking and cooking and it's also nice for the whole family to be able to enjoy something you've made. There are plenty of recipes online to try with children of all ages. Again, just be sure to check with the parents first.

Language Practice

For a lot of families, having Au Pair from another country is great to encourage children to learn another language. They will have schoolwork you can help with and will learn through playing with you, but if you have older children, it can be helpful to have something more structured to do. Ideas for this could be watching a video together on a topic they find interested, and then discuss it together, or help them to write a short story. For English practice, the BBC Bitesize website or BBC Learning English can be very helpful.
